Ever 3 years was the year of tithing and 10% "of thine increase the third year" was given to the "Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow". Deut 26:12 <strong>Tithe to King -- 10%</strong>. Every year there was 10% taken by the King. "Tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards" and a "tenth of your sheep" 1Sam 8:15-17. So this looks like 23.3% to me. If you want to keep one of them you need to keep them all. So those that teach tithing should be teaching 23% at least. This is not counting offerings of which there were many. For example 5 shekels (shekel is 1/2 oz) (Num 18:16) of silver for every man and unclean beast born which would be $75 in todays money.
